Reon mcilwain, Certified personal trainer
My name is Reon Mcilwain. I was born and raised in Hickory, NC and currently live in the area with my wife. I became interested in fitness at the age of 22. Prior to that, I was never concerned about my health, which lead to me gaining 80 pounds (see before pic below) and struggling to perform simple activities. It was at this point that I realized I needed to make a change in my life. Trying to change my lifestyle was a slow journey but gradually I began to increase my physical activity and eat healthy on a consistent basis. Through hard work and dedication, I was able to lose 80 lbs. and drop over 20% body fat. At the age of 26, I obtained my first personal training certification. Since then, I have acquired 15 other certifications all related to furthering my education in personal training and physical fitness. I have been involved in fitness instruction for over 12 years and taught locally for 6 years.
My philosophy when it comes to fitness instruction is that” training starts with me first” because in order for me to be of value to my clients, I have to be willing to put in the work myself. This means putting in my "sets/reps" at the gym, eating properly, and furthering my education. This philosophy has allowed me to have a greater impact in the lives of the people I've worked with over the years.
