My mission in life is simple; I work for mutual empowerment. When my clients take charge of their life and move towards being the person they strive to be it lights my fire. My success becomes linked to your success and together we have a lot more power and leverage to achieve your health goals.
Physical training helps you get more out of life. The mind and the body are integrated. As the body strengthens, increases mobility, and circulates more energy the mind becomes more determined, connected, and focused. With more energy, focus, determination and connection life becomes more electrified and less mundane.
I am a trainer because I truly believe that better health will empower you to be the best version of you - to always show up with more energy and vitality. My clients have a lot of responsibilities and often take care of other people. Enhanced self care allows you to give more to your family, community, profession or whatever your purpose in life calls you to.

“George is a terrific teacher!”
“These sessions have really helped me understand movement”.
I have been a physically active person since I was a child. My Dad was a runner and lifted weights so I gravitated towards those activities and my Dad encouraged me with patience and bonding through exercise. I began studying martial arts in middle school with Judo classes at the local community center. I shifted to high school sports and after graduation I began studying Kenpo Karate. In my early 20’s the physical and mental benefits of yoga and meditation were shared with me by roommates. In my 40’s I slowed martial arts movement through the guidance of a Kenpo brother to embrace the study of Tai Chi. I continue to learn, now on the mats of Fenix Jiu Jitsu, learning how to ‘listen’ to the movements of others and myself through tactile awareness.
Physical fitness was always a piece of self defense for me. I wanted to be physically fit to either run from bigger kids in the neighborhood or stand my ground. Through martial arts training I learned a lot of skills to neutralize an attacker. I had my share of scraps as a young man but as I quit staying out late, hanging out in bars, and my young buck testosterone levels diminished the physical confrontations seemed to vanish. As I age and mellow my concept of self defense shifts. While I continue to train in the arts of striking and grappling I don’t see that training as my main self defense practice.
In 2024 I will be 50 years young. Self defense for me is now about muscular balance to protect joints, mindfulness practice to choose the right words and actions, getting to bed early for a minimum of 7 hours (I always want at least 8 hours) of quality sleep, consumption of food and drink that nourishes my body, regular sauna and cold water exposure, stress management through breath work, adequate sunlight (especially early morning and end of day), healthy relationships with community connection, and other practices to maintain health and energy while reducing inflammation.
I know that what kicks my butt is not the unknown assailant in an alley but rather responding poorly to my wife in a moment of irritability and setting off a marital powder keg. I am not worried about getting sucker-punched in a bar but overly tight hip flexors can definitely hurt me with chronic low back pain. Getting into a knife fight seems extremely low on the probability scale but falling down and damaging a joint has a likelihood that increases with each birthday.
I am highly motivated to maximize my health and vitality in order to carry out my number one mission on planet earth - working for mutual empowerment. I push to be the best version of me so that I am fully available to serve my family, friends, clients, and community. I am only able to achieve personal satisfaction when I am walking this path.
Today I work as a certified personal trainer and behavior change specialist. I am also a certified yoga, Tai Chi, and martial arts instructor. I most recently completed a certification program in corrective exercise. I have compiled knowledge and technique from all of these areas and combined it with the latest scientific research to develop training programs to maximize joint health and longevity through development in strength, flexibility, mobility, stability, agility, balance, coordination, and cardiovascular capacity. There are a number of research based life habits that will reduce your overall inflammation and keep your body in an energetic, pain free state of functionality. I am eager to share this information with you as your trainer and show you how to incorporate healthy living practices into your daily routine. Want more energy and vitality?
In my free time I am an avid backpacker, gardener, and mushroom forager. My wife, Soraya and I volunteer with Centro Latino. We love to have regular dance nights and hike with our dogs. I met Soraya when I was a Peace Corps volunteer in El Salvador (2001-2004) and she and I served as Peace Corps volunteers together in Panama (2012-2014).
